DVT Quality Alert for DVT type regulators that were
purchased between Nov. 1, 2012 and May 14, 2013

Oceanic has received isolated reports of DVT assemblies using a specific batch of DVT plungers extruding.

Testing and analysis indicates that this occurs when the First Stage is only partially depressurized prior to the removal from the cylinder. Back pressure from the instrument console could cause the DVT Plunger to extrude.

The affected DVT Plungers (PN 6903) entered the production process in November 2012 and contained softer molded material.

qa

Testing indicates that earlier material and a new harder molded part eliminates any possibility of extrusion.

Oceanic urges all owners of Oceanic DVT type regulators that were purchased between Nov. 1, 2012 and Jun. 10, 2013 to go online to verify if their serial number was affected.

Go To → http://dvt.oceanicworldwide.com/

If your serial number is listed on the website or your Oceanic DVT type regulator was serviced between Nov. 1, 2012 and May 14, 2013, take your regulator to your Oceanic Service Center to perform a parts retrofit at no charge to you.

No other Oceanic regulators were affected.

WARNING: DISCONTINUE USE of the Regulator First Stage until it receives a Retrofit. Only Authorized Oceanic Dealers and their trained service technicians can perform this Retrofit. Non-authorized persons who attempt the Retrofit procedure risk voiding the product’s warranty and rendering the product dangerously unsafe for SCUBA use.

QLR3 Weight Pocket Quality Alert for Excursion 2,
Probe HLC & Ocean Pro 1000D BCDs

Oceanic has initiated a mandatory replacement (retrofit) of all original QLR3 Weight Pockets (with black stiffeners) with newly designed Weight Pockets (with gray stiffeners) that afford better locking.

Extensive analysis by Oceanic engineers has shown that functionality of a limited number of QLR3 weight pocket systems has been adversely affected by the materials used.  Inconsistencies in the properties of material rendered it to be unpredictable for use to adequately secure the weight pockets in the BC.  Engineers have tested and evaluated replacement material that demonstrates superior performance and locking ability.

Oceanic has received isolated reports of select model BCs fitted with QLR3 type Weight Pockets that unexpectedly released. Affected are Excursion 2, Probe HLC, and Ocean Pro 1000D model BCs fitted with the original QLR3 Weight Pockets having black stiffeners. All BCs of this type currently being shipped by Oceanic are fitted with the new (gray) stiffeners. See illustrations above.

Analysis by Oceanic engineers has shown that functionality of a limited number of QLR3 weight pocket systems has been adversely affected by the materials used. Inconsistencies in the properties of material rendered it to be unpredictable for use to adequately secure the weight pockets in the BC. Engineers have tested and evaluated replacement material that demonstrates superior performance and locking ability.

Oceanic urges all owners of Oceanic BCs that have the original QLR3 Weight Pockets (with black stiffeners) to go online and complete the QLR3 Registration Form to obtain replacement pockets at no charge.

Go to >> http://qlr3.americanunderwaterproducts.com/

Upon submission and verification of the digital form, Oceanic will ship a pair of the new replacement Weight Pockets (with gray stiffeners) to the address furnished.

WARNING: Do not continue use of the original (black) QLR3 Weight Pockets, or use the Weight Pockets if the fixed (female) buckle that secures it in the BC is damaged. Do not attempt to repair any damaged components. If the fixed (female) buckle in the BC is damaged, take the BC with the Pockets to your Authorized Oceanic Dealer for inspection and service. Unauthorized personnel who attempt repairs of the BC risk voiding the warranty and rendering the product dangerously unsafe for normal SCUBA use.

Thank you!

QLR3 WEIGHT POCKET REPLACEMENT

fig

• Remove the older (black) Weight Pocket by grasping the handle and pulling it out of the BC.
• Destroy the old (black) Weight Pocket by cutting off the handle (Fig. 1) and discard. Do not return to Oceanic.
• Inspect the fixed (female) buckle* on the BC that secures the Weight Pocket. See instructions below.

>> If no damage is found, slide the new (gray) Weight Pocket into the BC until the buckle clicks** securing it in place.
>> If damage is found, the buckle must be replaced. This procedure must be performed by an Authorized Oceanic Dealer.

*The QLR3 system is configured with a fixed (female) buckle located on the BC that provides for positive engagement of the pocket when installed.
**Note that lack of a noticeable ‘click’ indicates that the locking posts on the fixed (female) buckle may have been damaged while being assembled during the manufacturing process.

FIXED (female) BUCKLE INSPECTION

Inspection can be performed by the BC owner or Dealer.
Replacement must be performed only by an Authorized Oceanic Dealer.

figsNOTE: If the original QLR3 pockets released inadvertently, the Fixed (female) Buckle may or may not be damaged. Likewise, if the Fixed (female) Buckle is damaged, the QLR3 pockets may continue to function without incident. This inspection helps ensure that all components of the release system are in an adequate condition to perform their functions properly.

The result of the inspection is to determine the condition of the Locking Posts (Fig. 2) that pass through the nylon material of the pouch and secure the plastic Cover which is positioned on one side of the fabric to the female Buckle which is positioned on the other side. The alignment posts, which also pass through the fabric, are used to prevent lateral movement of the female Buckle while the Weight Pocket is being inserted or released.

Pull the nylon pouch material away from the female Buckle and inspect the outer Locking Posts that attach the plastic Cover to the female Buckle.

>> If the mushroom caps* of the outer Locking Posts are intact and not damaged (Fig. 3), the inner Locking Posts will also be intact. No further action is required, the new pockets can be installed and release tested.

>> If any of the mushroom caps* of the Locking Posts are missing, distorted, or physically damaged in any way (Fig. 4), the female Buckle and Cover are to be replaced by an Authorized Oceanic Dealer.

*The mushroom caps of the Locking Posts snap into the corresponding holes in the female

Oceanic Worldwide Announces Voluntary
Recall of ATOM 2.0 Wrist Watch Dive Computers

February 7, 2007– San Leandro, CA – In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Oceanic Worldwide of San Leandro, California, is voluntarily recalling Oceanic ATOM 2.0 Wrist Watch Dive Computers. Oceanic has been notified by its supplier (Pelagic Pressure Systems) that they received isolated reports that two ATOM 2.0 Dive Computers locked into the Gas Switch-to screen and did not return to the Main Dive screen when the divers switched the units from Gas 1 to Gas d2 during dives when they were only using one Transmitter, and Pressure associated with Gas 2 was being provided by an Analog Gauge.

Affected are Oceanic ATOM 2.0 Wrist Watch Dive Computers having serial numbers 1 through 2079 that were sold between August 2006 and February 2007, and are being used for diving activities that include use of multiple gas mixes not associated with multiple transmitters.

Testing and evaluation has shown that this can occur if the control button used to switch Gases during a dive is depressed too long (4 seconds instead of the 2 seconds required to perform the operation) or it is pressed multiple times for 2 seconds when a Gas Switch operation is performed when there are multiple Gases (FO2 mixes) but not multiple Transmitters. Engineering programmers have modified the software of the ATOM 2.0 to prevent the Switch-to screen from locking on the display.

Oceanic asks that all owners of affected Oceanic ATOM 2.0 Wrist Watch Dive Computers return them to the Authorized Oceanic Dealer from which they were purchased for a software upgrade at no charge.

WARNING: DO NOT CONTINUE USE of the dive computers for multiple gas switching activities until the software is upgraded. Only Authorized Oceanic Dealers and their trained service technicians must perform this upgrade. Non-authorized personnel who attempt the upgrade procedure risk voiding the product's warranty and rendering the product dangerously unsafe for SCUBA use.

To access / view the serial number / firmware revision number screen while in Watch Mode:
