In 1993, Oceanic was one of the first SCUBA brands to launch a web site. In 1996, Oceanic introduced what was referred to as T3 – an innovative ecommerce strategy that directed product availability and pricing inquiries to local dealers. In 2004, Oceanic launched Total Access – a hosted ecommerce model which again directed consumers wishing to buy online to our authorized dealers. From the beginning, we have endeavored to leverage the power of the internet to educate, support, and ultimately sell our products – while allowing our dealers to be seamlessly included in every sale.
The new site offers direct to consumer ecommerce sales, providing access to the complete range of Oceanic products, while once again including the local Oceanic dealer in the process. While Oceanic processes payment and fulfills the order, the customer may select a free shipping option with in-store delivery, or should they choose home delivery, must select a Local Service Dealer. The associated dealer receives credit for the sale. Rather than randomly select the nearest dealer or require dealer bidding on the order, we believe that by allowing the consumer to choose, it encourages a relationship with that specific dealer. Order confirmations, order history, and annual service reminders for life-support products will always refer to the selected Local Service Dealer. Our goal is to provide the best of both worlds – the convenience of shopping online with all the benefits and services associated with buying in a local store.
In addition to a new modern design that is easy to navigate, the new site offers expanded product information including video, complete specs, ratings and reviews. Visitors also have the ability to easily search for specific items, locate a local dealer, check out the latest company news and promotions, and connect via Facebook and other social media sites. Customer service has been enhanced with an expanded support section and a searchable knowledgebase for frequently asked questions.
This initiative will reinforce Oceanic’s leadership in ecommerce within the diving industry by allowing Oceanic site visitors to easily find and purchase our products online with a range of delivery and order options, without losing connection with their local dealer.
